INTRODUCING Ngorongoro Crater (with optional day at Lake Manyara National Park or Tarangire National Park)

If time is short but the call of Tanzania is loud, this is where you go first. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of those places that earns every superlative ever written about it. A collapsed volcanic caldera sheltering more than 30,000 animals within its walls, it has been compared to Noah’s Ark, and once you are down on the crater floor you begin to understand why. Lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo share this extraordinary, self-contained world with wildebeest, zebra, hippo, flamingo and an abundance of birdlife. Two days here is time well spent.
This itinerary can be done two ways:
a) You can descend into the crater on both days, which many guests choose simply because no two game drives are ever the same.
b) Or you can combine one crater descent with a full day in either Lake Manyara or Tarangire National Park, adding a completely different habitat and wildlife experience to the trip. We are happy to talk through which option suits you best.
Each programme follows the same base itinerary and differs only in accommodation type.

ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Arusha – Ngorongoro Crater – Ngorongoro
Depart Arusha in the morning and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving in time for lunch before your first descent into the crater. The afternoon game drive gives you your initial feel for the place: the scale of it, the quiet drama of the landscape, the density of wildlife moving across the floor below the crater walls. It is a lot to take in, and most guests find themselves grateful for a second day. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 2: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Back into the crater after breakfast for a full morning game drive. The light is different, the animals have moved, and the chances of finding what you missed yesterday are good. Picnic lunch on the crater floor before the afternoon drive back to Arusha.
