OPTIONS:

Northern Circuit Express Luxury – Five-day Safari
Northern Circuit Express Lodge/Tented Camp – Five-day Safari
Northern Circuit Express Camping – Five-day Safari

Five days, four national parks, and the full sweep of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. This itinerary was designed for travellers who do not have weeks to spare but refuse to compromise on the experience. From a walking safari through Arusha National Park to the elephant herds of Tarangire, the endless plains of the Serengeti and the extraordinary wildlife of the Ngorongoro Crater, this tour covers the ground that matters most and does it without rushing what cannot be rushed.

Each option follows the same itinerary and differs only in accommodation type. Your walking safari in Arusha National Park is led by an armed ranger, keeping you safe while getting you properly close to the animals.

On Day 2 or Day 4, you have the option to add a hot air balloon flight over Tarangire or the Serengeti, finishing with a champagne toast and a full breakfast served in the bush.

Our Safari Tips and Safari FAQ pages cover everything you need before you travel. The Wildlife section gives useful background on the animals you are likely to encounter, and the Photo Gallery holds images taken by guests who have made this same journey.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: Arusha – Arusha National Park – Tarangire
The tour opens on foot. A morning walking safari through Arusha National Park brings you quietly alongside giraffe, buffalo, zebra, various antelope and the park’s celebrated Black and White Colobus Monkeys, their distinctive tails giving them away high in the canopy. After lunch a game drive takes in the flamingo-lined Momela Lakes and the dramatic forested rim of Ngurdoto Crater before the afternoon transfer to Tarangire for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Luxury Tented Camp or Basic Camp

DAY 2: Tarangire
A full day in Tarangire, where ancient baobabs frame a landscape that transforms dramatically as the dry season takes hold. Elephant herds are present year-round and can number in the hundreds, while wildebeest, zebra, eland, buffalo, hartebeest and the rare oryx converge on the Tarangire River from the Maasai steppe with predators moving steadily behind them. Few parks in Africa deliver this kind of density in a single day. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Luxury Tented Camp or Basic Camp

DAY 3: Olduvai Gorge – Serengeti
After breakfast the drive heads toward the Serengeti with an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge, where some of the earliest physical evidence of human existence was uncovered from the earth beneath the Rift Valley. It puts everything that follows into a certain perspective. The Serengeti opens up after lunch, home to more than four million animals and the stage for the greatest wildlife migration on the planet. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Luxury Tented Camp or Basic Camp

DAY 4: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
A full morning on the endless plains, searching for lions, spotted hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, servals, caracals, giraffe, buffalo, topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, impala, hippo, crocodile, warthog and a remarkable variety of birdlife. The Serengeti gives generously to those who take the time to look. After lunch the drive heads to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for dinner and overnight, the crater waiting for the morning. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Luxury Tented Camp or Basic Camp

DAY 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
A final descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, the eighth wonder of the world and one of the finest wildlife destinations on the African continent. More than 30,000 animals live within its ancient volcanic walls, and the Big Five are all present and findable. Picnic lunch on the crater floor before the afternoon drive back to Arusha.

End of tour!
