ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Arusha – Snake Park – Tarangire
The journey begins with a morning visit to the Snake Park, where you can observe some of the world’s most venomous species from a safe distance: Green and Black Mamba, Puff Adder, Gaboon Viper, alongside lizards, chameleons and Nile crocodiles. Maasai outside the park can also arrange camel rides if you fancy something a little different. After lunch, the drive continues to Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive. Large family herds of elephants are resident here year-round and rarely disappoint. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 2: Tarangire
A full day in Tarangire. During the dry season this park rivals the Serengeti ecosystem for sheer density of wildlife. Thousands of wildebeest, zebra, eland, elephant, buffalo, hartebeest and the rare oryx move in from the Maasai steppe toward the Tarangire River in search of water, with lions, leopards and other predators never far behind. Picnic lunch in the park. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 3: Lake Manyara
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, tucked at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. This compact park punches well above its weight, home to elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and more than 400 bird species. Its most famous residents are the tree-climbing lions, often spotted resting on acacia branches six or seven metres above the ground, a sight that stops most visitors in their tracks. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 4: Lake Eyasi – the Daatoga and the Haadzabe »the Real Bushmen«
A morning drive brings you to Lake Eyasi, one of Tanzania’s largest soda lakes, and what many guests describe as the most extraordinary day of their entire trip. You will spend time with the Daatoga people before joining the Hadzabe tribe on their hunt, going out into the bush with one of the last communities on earth still living entirely as their ancestors did thousands of years ago. This is not a demonstration. It is the real thing, and it tends to leave a lasting impression. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 5: Ngorongoro – Olduvai Gorge – Serengeti
The drive today takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Serengeti, with an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge, widely regarded as »the Cradle of Mankind« and one of the most significant archaeological sites on earth. A humbling place to pause before the plains open up ahead of you. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 6: Serengeti
You are now in the world’s most famous wildlife park, roughly the size of Ireland and home to four million animals. The Serengeti is also where the Great Migration plays out each year, one of the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles on the planet. There is nowhere quite like it. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 7: Serengeti
Another full day on the plains, searching for lions, spotted hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, servals, caracals, giraffe, buffalo, topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, impala, hippo, crocodile, warthog and a remarkable variety of birdlife. Days like this one are why people come to Tanzania. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 8: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
A sunrise game drive across the open Serengeti plains before the drive back toward Ngorongoro. The Conservation Area is also Maasai country, home to a community who have held onto their way of life for centuries, and the landscape here carries a different, quieter kind of beauty as the day winds down. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp
DAY 9: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
The final morning descends into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the eighth wonder of the world. The crater floor supports an exceptional density of wildlife and offers one of the best chances anywhere in Africa to spot all of the Big Five in a single game drive. Picnic lunch before the afternoon drive back to Arusha.
