INTRODUCING Arusha National Park (or a day trip to Lake Manyara National Park or Tarangire National Park)
Not everyone has two weeks. This day trip was put together for travellers who are short on time but unwilling to leave Tanzania without getting out into the bush. Arusha National Park sits on the doorstep of the city and rewards the effort generously. It is also one of the few parks in the Northern Circuit where you can leave the vehicle behind and experience the wilderness on foot.
A note worth knowing: your walking safari is led by an armed ranger whose job is to keep you safe while getting you genuinely close to the animals. It makes for a very different experience from a standard game drive.
For guidance on what to bring and what to expect, our Safari Tips and Safari FAQ pages are a good place to start. Our Wildlife section covers the animals you are likely to encounter, and our Photo Gallery has plenty of images from guests who have made this same trip.

ITINERARY:
DAY 1: Arusha – Arusha National Park – Arusha
The morning is spent on foot. Walking quietly through the park, you will get closer to giraffe, buffalo, zebra and various antelope than any vehicle allows, and with a little patience the trees will eventually reveal the park’s most celebrated residents: the Black and White Colobus Monkeys, fluffy-tailed and entirely at home high in the canopy above you.
After lunch the tour continues by vehicle. The alkaline Momela Lakes draw large flocks of pink flamingos and offer a serene contrast to the drama of the volcanic Ngurdoto Crater nearby, its rim forested and its floor sheltering shy antelope well off the beaten track. Late afternoon return to Arusha.
End of tour!
