PURELY TANZANIA

Tanzania Travel Health Advisory

We will add here all Official Health Updates for Travellers to Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar as soon as the respective Ministry of Health publishes them.

TWO HEALTH AUTHORITIES, ONE COUNTRY
Tanzania is one country, the United Republic of Tanzania. However, health is governed separately in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Each has its own Ministry of Health, which issues its own advisories and requirements. These can sometimes differ.

Which advisory applies to you?
The requirements that apply are generally those of your point of entry from your international flight. If you land in Mainland Tanzania, follow the Mainland section. If you land in Zanzibar, follow the Zanzibar section. If your trip includes both, please read both sections.

MAINLAND TANZANIA:

17th October 2026: Travel Advisory No. 18, Ebola precautions

Source: Ministry of Health, United Republic of Tanzania, Travel Advisory No. 18 of 17th October 2026.

Following the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a recent case in Kenya linked to travel from the DRC, Tanzania has expanded its health requirements for incoming travellers. The measures took effect immediately.

Complete the health surveillance form.
All travellers must fill in the online Traveller’s Health Surveillance Form before departure, or on arrival. We strongly advise completing it beforehand at home, on a reliable connection, as free internet at airports, land borders and ports can be limited and can cause delays. Enter accurate information and keep your confirmation QR code or reference number. Port Health Authorities will ask to see it.

Expect health screening on arrival:
Health screening, including a temperature check, applies to all travellers at airports, ground crossings and ports. Anyone showing symptoms will be managed under national screening procedures.

Monitor your health:
Travellers will receive health information on arrival and should monitor themselves for symptoms. If you feel unwell, contact the nearest health facility or point of entry. You can also call the toll-free number 199 or email poe@afya.go.tz.

21-day follow-up for high-risk travellers:
Travellers assessed as high risk will receive daily automated messages for 21 days. They must respond, even after leaving Tanzania.

Observe hygiene measures:
All travellers must follow infection prevention measures, including hand hygiene, use sanitizers and avoiding unnecessary physical contact.

Onward travel:
If you are leaving Tanzania, check the entry requirements of your destination or transit country.

The Ministry will review this advisory as needed and we will update this page accordingly.

Screening:
All arriving international passengers are screened at Zanzibar’s designated airports and seaports. This includes temperature checks and other health assessments. Anyone with symptoms will be assessed, separated and managed under isolation and referral protocols.

Recent exposure:
Anyone who has been in an Ebola-affected area in the past 21 days must provide health and travel information through the surveillance system.

Know the symptoms:
These include fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding and unusual weakness. Watch for them especially within 21 days of possible exposure. If they appear, contact the nearest health facility or Port Health Officer, or call the toll-free hotline 115. Please mention any recent travel.

Hygiene:
Travellers and crew must practise regular hand hygiene, use sanitisers and avoid unnecessary physical contact where clinically indicated.

The Ministry will review this advisory as needed and we will update this page whenever they change.
