PURELY TANZANIA

Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to all services provided by Pure Afro Travels Tanzania.

By confirming a booking, making a deposit, or paying for services, the client acknowledges that they have read, understood, and accepted the following Terms and Conditions.

1. Prices

All prices are quoted in United States Dollars (US$) per person, unless otherwise specified.

Tanzania is gradually moving toward a digital economy, although cash remains widely used. The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). All in-country payments, including park and conservation fees, are settled in TZS, except for payments made on behalf of non-residents for tourism activities.

Fees are generally charged per person, per single entry, per 24 hours, and may change without prior notice.

As of July 2024, all park fees are payable in Tanzanian Shillings. Fees are currently calculated at 2,555 TZS per USD (March 2026).

Please note that all government fees are subject to change each year on 1st July with the new fiscal year, sometimes with little or no notice. Any increase in park or conservation fees may therefore be passed on to cover the difference.

Unless otherwise stated in your safari or trekking itinerary, prices generally include:

Prices do not include:

Pure Afro Travels Tanzania reserves the right to adjust prices if accommodation costs, park fees, fuel prices, or other operational expenses increase by more than 5% prior to booking confirmation.

2. Booking Conditions and Payments

A booking with Pure Afro Travels Tanzania is considered confirmed only upon receipt of a non-refundable deposit.

Standard booking conditions:

Accepted payment methods include:

Credit card surcharges are determined by the bank and will be noted on your invoice at the time of booking.

A secure payment link will be emailed to the provided email address. Payment links are time-sensitive and generally expire within 24 hours. For security reasons, Pure Afro Travels Tanzania accepts only 3D Secure-enabled (3DS) card payments. Please ensure your card is enrolled for 3DS authentication by your bank in order to complete the payment successfully.

Only the amount actually received in our bank account will be considered as paid. All bank transfer costs are the responsibility of the client.

If the client shortens the scheduled tour after official departure, no refund will be made. If the tour is extended after departure, additional days must be paid upon arrival at the Pure Afro Travels Tanzania office in Arusha.

3. Programme Specific Deposits and Payments

For certain programmes or tailor-made itineraries, different payment schedules may apply.

Typical conditions may include:

Flights are generally payable within 7 days of booking confirmation, unless the airline specifies otherwise.

4. Cancellations

All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Pure Afro Travels Tanzania, and receipt must be acknowledged.

Cancellation policy includes:

Flights, once paid, are usually non-transferable and non-refundable, unless the airline allows changes or refunds according to their own conditions.

5. Late Bookings

Reservations for hotels and lodges are made only after receiving the required advance payment. In the case of late bookings, certain accommodations may already be fully booked by the time payment is received.

Pure Afro Travels Tanzania will attempt to arrange suitable alternatives of a similar category. If this is not possible, the tour price may be adjusted accordingly.

6. Hotel Only Bookings

If the booking includes hotel accommodation only, full payment is required upon confirmation.

A 5% service charge or a minimum US$50 reservation fee per person per accommodation applies.

7. Flights Only Bookings

If the booking includes local or regional flights only, full payment is required upon confirmation.

Reservation fees:

8. Accommodation

Accommodation is generally based on two persons sharing a double or twin-bedded room.

Single rooms are subject to availability and may require a single room supplement.

Hotels, lodges, and luxury tented camps listed in itineraries indicate the accommodation category.  Pure Afro Travels Tanzania reserves the right to provide similar accommodation of the same standard if necessary.

9. Zanzibar Travel Requirements
Mandatory Zanzibar Travel Insurance

Effective 1st October 2024, Zanzibar requires Mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance for all non-residents entering Zanzibar through seaports and airports.

The insurance must be obtained exclusively from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC).

Application website: www.visitzanzibar.go.tz

Contact:  Email: inbound [at] zic.co.tz ;  Toll-free number: 0800008005

Cost: USD 44 per adult; 50% discount for children aged 3 to 17.99 years; 10% discount for groups of 10 or more persons

Coverage is limited and mainly applicable to emergencies.

Note:  This insurance must be presented at entry; all Tanzanian non-residents cannot enter Zanzibar without it.

Zanzibar Infrastructure Tax

As of 1st July 2023, all accommodation providers in Zanzibar are required to charge an Infrastructure Tax.

The tax ranges between USD 2 and USD 5 per person per night, depending on the accommodation category.

This tax is generally not included in most tour prices and must be paid directly at the accommodation, usually upon check-in.

10. Transport

Safari tours are operated in comfortable 4×4 safari vehicles with sliding windows and pop-up roofs.

An English-speaking driver guide is included.

Unless specified otherwise, all airport and other transfers, except safaris, are not conducted in 4×4 vehicles.

Pure Afro Travels Tanzania reserves the right to employ qualified subcontractors where necessary.

11. Luggage

Due to limited space in safari vehicles, luggage is limited to one suitcase or backpack per person. Soft-sided luggage or duffels are recommended for easier storage in safari vehicles, on trekking, and in small bush aircraft. Maximum dimensions should not exceed 23 inches (58 cm) long × 13 inches (33 cm) high × 10 inches (25 cm) wide.

For trekking trips, the luggage weight limit is 15 kg (33 pounds) per person. If luggage exceeds this limit, an additional porter must be hired at the client’s expense.

On local domestic flights within Tanzania, especially from bush airstrips, each passenger is limited to a maximum baggage weight of 15 kg (33 pounds). This weight includes purses, camera equipment, and other personal items in addition to regular luggage. Luggage restrictions are strictly enforced, so passengers should pack accordingly.

Please remember to ask you tour operator what is your luggage allowance on your local flight to avoid any charges attracted by the extra luggage weight.

Please note that flights aboard light aircraft may include multiple stops at different airstrips for loading and offloading passengers, and an aircraft swap may be required during the journey.

12. Travel Insurance

All clients are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive travel insurance within 7 days of paying the deposit.

Insurance should cover:

Choosing not to purchase travel insurance does not remove the obligation to pay cancellation charges or supplier penalties.

13. Liability and Disclaimer

Pure Afro Travels Tanzania acts as a booking agent for airlines, hotels, transport companies, and other service suppliers. The company cannot be held responsible for acts, omissions, or service failures of these third-party suppliers.

The company shall not be liable for:

Pure Afro Travels is not liable for failures to perform due to ‘Force Majeure’ events, including but not limited to weather extremes, strikes, or government-mandated travel restrictions.

If a safari vehicle breaks down, a replacement vehicle will be provided. Lost time may be compensated with additional safari time or a proportional refund.

All claims are governed by the laws of Tanzania.

14. Risks

Adventure travel involves certain inherent risks. By participating in a safari or trekking programme, clients accept these risks at their own responsibility.

15. Complaints

If any issue arises during the tour, clients must notify the guide or local representative immediately so the matter can be addressed.

16. Communication

If you do not receive a reply to your email within two days, please resend your message.

17. Trekking, Medical Conditions, and Summit Attempts

Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru treks involve high-altitude hiking and physical exertion. Reaching the summit cannot be guaranteed.

Factors such as altitude sickness, weather conditions, physical fitness, and safety considerations may prevent a client from reaching the summit.

All decisions made by the lead mountain guide regarding the safety, health, and continuation of the trek are final and must be respected by all participants.

If a client is required to descend for safety or medical reasons, no refund or compensation will be provided for unused trekking days or missed summit attempts.

The safety and well-being of clients and staff always take priority over summit success.

18. Code of Conduct and Ethics

We encourage all guests to read the Code of Conduct and Ethics booklet, which explains responsible behaviour on tours and provides guidance on local culture, traditions, and customs.

Visitors are expected to respect local customs and traditions. If in doubt, please ask your guide, accompanying staff, or us as your travel advisor. Additional information can also be found on our website: www.pure-afro.com  (FAQ, About Tanzania, News)
