Bush Experience Camping – Four-day Safari

Four days, four completely different worlds. You will get up close to some of the most venomous snakes on the planet in a safe and fascinating setting, spend a morning in the bush with the Daatoga and Haadzabe Bushmen, drop into the Ngorongoro Crater for a chance at the Big Five, and finish among the ancient baobabs and elephant herds of Tarangire. Short in duration but long on experience, this is one of our most rewarding itineraries.

Each option follows the same itinerary and differs only in accommodation type.

Before you travel, our Safari Tips and Safari FAQ pages cover everything you need to know about what to pack and what to expect on the road. Our Wildlife section gives you a useful introduction to the animals you are likely to meet along the way, and our Photo Gallery holds images taken by guests who have done exactly what you are about to do.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: Arusha – Snake Park – Lake Manyara National Park
Your first morning is spent at the Snake Park, face to face with some of the most formidable reptiles in Africa. Green and Black Mamba, Puff Adder, Gaboon Viper, lizards, chameleons and Nile crocodiles, all viewable safely and up close. Maasai nearby can arrange camel rides for those who want to add something unexpected before lunch. The afternoon takes you to Lake Manyara, a compact park that consistently surprises first-time visitors with its variety. Elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and over 400 bird species call it home, and its tree-climbing lions, draped across acacia branches high above the ground, are unlike anything you will see elsewhere. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp

DAY 2: Lake Eyasi – the Daatoga and the Haadzabe Bushmen
Few days on any safari itinerary compare to this one. You will visit the Daatoga first, a people whose blacksmithing skills and beautifully crafted jewellery have been passed down through generations, and whose quiet pride in their work is immediately apparent. Then out into the bush with the Haadzabe on their morning hunt. One of the oldest cultures on earth, the Haadzabe communicate in an extraordinary click language that seems to belong to another world entirely, and they will show you how to start a fire without matches in the time it takes most of us to find a lighter. Their connection to this land is tens of thousands of years deep, and a few hours in their company makes that very easy to believe. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp

DAY 3: Ngorongoro Crater
Breakfast, then down into the crater. The Ngorongoro is unlike anywhere else on earth: a collapsed volcanic caldera teeming with wildlife, where lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo share a self-contained world that has been drawing visitors for generations. Picnic lunch on the crater floor. The afternoon offers an optional visit to a Maasai community within the Conservation Area, people who have lived alongside this landscape for centuries and show little interest in leaving it behind. Overnight: Lodge, Hotel, Tented Camp or Camp

DAY 4: Tarangire – Arusha
A fitting farewell. Tarangire is baobab country, a park of deep riverbeds, vast skies and elephant herds that can number in the hundreds. In the dry season the wildlife concentrations around the Tarangire river here are remarkable. Take your time with it. The drive back to Arusha comes soon enough.

End of tour!
